Updated Donation Policy for The Qur'an Project 2026

1. 100% Donation Policy! 

We operate a strict 100% Donation Policy! This means that general donations were used exclusively for printing the English version of the Qur'an Project only. No funds were used for Arabic copies, other publications, marketing, as these would have their own donation campaigns. This policy was established to build complete trust and a clear target focus for the English Qur'an Project. Donors could give with confidence, knowing exactly where their contribution was going and what impact it would have. There were no hidden costs, no reallocations, and no dilution of purpose. The commitment was simple - 100% in, 100% out.

Due to the growth and impact of The Qur'an Project, we are now extending this 100% Donation Policy beyond just the English printing. Donations will support The Qur'an Project more broadly, while maintaining the same principle - every penny donated will go directly towards project delivery, including all publications, resources, marketing etc (there are NO salaries - the team is run by volunteers). 100% Donation Policy!

2. Zakat Donations. 

For 18 years, we had chosen not to take Zakat but Sadaqah only. After repeated suggestions from well-wishers to take Zakat, we decided to ask for a fatwah on the matter in our specific case. We asked Shaykh Abdul Hayy Yusuf (Sudan) for a ruling on this. Based on his answer, we will now be taking Zakat - His full statement below:

الحمد لله رب العالمين واصلي واسلم على خير خلق الله أجمعين نبينا محمد وعلى اله وأصحابه ومن اهتدى بهديه واستن بسنته الى يوم الدين. وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته. أما بعد. فلا حرج في أخذ أموال الزكاة من أجل طباعة الترجمة الموثوقة للقرأن للترجمة التفسيرية الموثوقة لكتاب الله عز وجل باللغات الحية المختلفة التي يتحقق بها ايصال كلمة الله عز وجل للبشرية. وذلك لأن من مصارف الزكاة مصرف في سبيل الله. وجمهور العلماء على أن هذا المصرف يقصد به الجهاد وما يعين عليه. ولما كانت الغاية من الجهاد هي ابلاغ دعوة الله عز وجل للانفاق، فان هذا يتحقق في زماننا هذا بطباعة الترجمات الموثوقة لتفسير كلام الله عز وجل من اجل ان يعرف الناس حقيقة الاسلام ويدخلوا في دين الله أفواجا. واسأل الله عز وجل ان يعين القائمين على هذا المشروع ويسددهم ويوفقهم. وصلى الله وسلم وبارك على سيدنا محمد وعلى اله وصحبه اجمعين

"There is no problem in taking zakah funds for the purpose of printing a reliable translation — a trustworthy interpretive translation — of the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, in various living languages, through which the Word of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, can be conveyed to humanity. This is because one of the categories of zakah expenditure is “in the cause of Allah” (fi sabilillah). The majority of scholars hold that this refers to jihad and what supports it. Since the objective of jihad is to convey the call of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, to people, this objective in our time can be fulfilled through printing reliable translations that interpret the words of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, so that people may know the reality of Islam and enter into the religion of Allah in large numbers. I ask Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, to aid those undertaking this project, to guide them, and to grant them success. And may Allah’s blessings, peace, and grace be upon our master Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions." Shaykh Abdul Hayy Yusuf
